Here’s your weekly wrap on Melbourne’s wholesale fruit and veg scene — what’s in season, what’s moving, and what’s costing more than it should.

From restaurants to catering crews, here’s the market update that keeps your wholesale fruit and veg buying sharp.

What’s Looking Good

Watermelon – Prices have nudged up a little, but quality is strong for late winter. A reliable option if you’re chasing colour on menus.

Oranges – Local Navels are nearing the end of their run, with Valencia season yet to kick off. Pricing has crept higher but quality is excellent.

Stone Fruit – Only imported fruit available, mostly from the U.S.A. Now seeing Peaches, Nectarines, and Plums filtering through.

Melons – Strong supply out of the Northern Territory across rockmelon, honeydew, and yellow melon. Pricing has softened, making them great value.

Tomatoes – Queensland-grown fruit is leading the pack for quality and consistency. Some cheaper South Australian and Bowen stock is around but with mixed results.

Capsicums – Holding steady on price with excellent Queensland quality.

Avocados – Hass are great buying, while green skins are just starting to appear. Ask your rep if you’d like to switch varieties.

Lettuce – All lines are performing well thanks to settled local weather.

Wombok – Good volume in the market and prices have come back nicely.

Asparagus – Early-season Aussie bunches are appearing (priced higher than imports), while Peru continues to supply the bulk.

Beans – Excellent supply and pricing from Queensland.

Zucchini – Great value and plenty of stock, also from Queensland.

Squash – Small volumes but strong quality, pricing reasonable.

Broccoli & Broccolini – Cheap, plentiful, and top quality. Local and Queensland lines both performing well.

Ginger, Garlic & Galangal – Solid supply across the board. Keep an eye out for Australian garlic in the coming months.

Mushrooms – Still excellent supply and low pricing — a standout line right now.

Strawberries – Queensland fruit is in full swing with quality high and prices continuing to ease.

🔻What’s in short supply

Raspberries & Blackberries – Local supply is tight, with fruit often unavailable on certain days.

Cucumbers – Product is solid, but volumes have tightened, pushing prices higher.

Cherry Medley Tomatoes – Shorter supply in the market, though quality remains very strong.

Pears – Still hard to come by, keeping prices firm.
