Melbourne Wholesale Fruit and Veg Market Report – September 24th, 2025

From bumper berries to bargain zucchini, there’s plenty of seasonal fruit and veg value in Melbourne this week. But don’t get too comfortable — potatoes are still spiralling, strawberries are fragile, and mushrooms aren’t behaving.

Whether you’re cooking for cafés, pubs, restaurants or planning menus in healthcare and childcare, this update shows you where the wins are and what to watch for.

"Egg prices drop in Melbourne wholesale fruit and veg market update for week of Sept 24 September 2025"

What’s Looking Good

Mangoes: Queensland supply is hitting its stride — fruit is fragrant, sweet, and prices keep easing. The market floor smells like summer, and it’s a great time to add them to the menu.

Raspberries & Blueberries: Supply is flowing, quality is strong, and prices have come right back. These are standout buys for both flavour and menu costings.

Apples & Pears: After last week’s tightness, supply has improved across all apple varieties and pears. Apples are eating especially well for this time of year, while pears are tasty but a little marked.

Zucchini: Prices have crashed on Victorian fruit, making this one of the sharpest buys on the market. Quality is excellent and value unbeatable.

Capsicums: Queensland crops are holding steady. Reds, greens and yellows are all solid quality. Mixed-colour fruit is available and a cheaper option if you can use them - Great for pizza shops!

Cucumbers: Prices have dropped significantly, particularly on Lebanese, which are nearly half the price of just a fortnight ago. Some good-value seconds available too.

Avocados: Bulk boxes are available at a good price if you can handle them. Supply is solid across WA, NSW, Vic, and SA. Remember -Ripe fruit in the coolroom, firm fruit out on the bench.

Asparagus: Prices keep coming back as Victorian supply strengthens. Quality is excellent, with boxes of loose 2nds offering extra savings for kitchens.

Eggplant: Strong local supply, with 8kg boxes now in full swing. Smaller fruit in 5kg seconds bags is just as good quality and a smart choice for bulk prep.

Beans Cauliflower & Broccolini: Both are reliable, cost-effective lines this week. Werribee South crops are performing strongly, keeping prices stable and quality excellent.

Chillies: Long reds, long greens, bullets and jalapeños are all well supplied. Heat seekers have plenty of choice this week.

Limes & Lemons: Limes are abundant and holding quality — handy as we head toward spring carnival. Lemons lean toward larger fruit this week, with good-value 2nds available in bulk bins.

Garlic: Imported Spanish and Mexican stock is filling the shelves for now.

Pomegranate: Australian season has finished, but fresh US fruit has landed and quality is promising.

Horseradish: Fresh supply, sold in 500g packs — a unique option for specials boards.

Lettuce: Iceberg is holding steady with good growing conditions keeping prices stable and quality clean.

Eggs: Supply has built up further, pushing prices down again. We’re passing these drops on immediately.

Hawkes Chippers: Back in stock! Supply is still tight, but at least consistent after last week’s dry spell.

"Strawberry supply becomes short in Melbourne wholesale fruit and veg market update for week of Sept 24 2025"

🔻What’s in short supply

Potatoes: No relief here — mop-top disease in Tasmania and weak SA yields continue to wreak havoc. Prices are up again, and quality remains patchy. Peeled and processed lines are still the best way to manage costs and labour.

Mushrooms: We expected improvements, but yields tightened again. Buttons and cups could run short by the weekend. Exotics are still fine.

Strawberries: Queensland has just about finished up, leaving Victorian fruit only. Shelf life isn’t as reliable, so order closer to need.

Tomatoes: Queensland supply is under pressure as SA fruit has been poor. Prices are edging up, though quality remains fine if you stick with Queensland.

Stone Fruit: US imports have finished up. We’re waiting for the first Australian stone fruit to arrive.
