Melbourne Wholesale Fruit and Veg Market Report – July 14, 2025

Here’s your weekly read on Melbourne’s wholesale fruit and veg scene. What’s in season, what’s moving, and what’s costing you more than it should.

Whether you run a fine dining kitchen, café, pub or catering business, this market intel will help you plan your orders and keep costs in check.

What’s Looking Good

Broccoli & Broccolini: Supply has surged and prices are finally on the way down. Excellent value heading into the back half of July.

Cabbage & Cauliflower: Plenty of supply in the market. Both are holding their own well through winter.

Mandarins: The citrus hero of the season — juicy, sweet and well-priced. A great option for menus or retail displays.

Tomatoes: Still higher than usual but trending in the right direction. Quality is much improved from last month.

Celery: Strong across the board — great quality and pricing make it a reliable staple right now.

Leeks & Mushrooms: Supply and pricing are stabilising for both, with mushrooms in particular offering good value.

Green Beans: Excellent quality and well-priced. Supply is back up and holding.

Herbs: All lines are performing well for this time of year. Bunch sizes are a little weather-dependent, but overall quality is solid.

Capsicum (Red & Green): Prices have eased and quality is good — a welcome change from recent highs.

What’s in short supply

Avocados: Supply has tightened again. Prices are slightly higher, but the fruit coming through is top quality.

Chillies: Still expensive and quality is hit-and-miss.

Asparagus: Short supply but prices remain steady. Expect tight availability to continue.

Pineapples: Supply is tight across the board.

Endive & Sorrel Bunch: Inconsistent supply — and when it’s off, it’s really off.

Bananas: Supply has firmed up, which may mean a slight lift in pricing.

Onions: Early-season rain in key growing regions is still impacting quality and availability.
