Here’s your weekly wrap on Melbourne’s wholesale fruit and veg scene — what’s in season, what’s moving, and what’s costing more than it should.

From restaurants to childcare centres — if you’re in charge of fresh produce, we’ve got your back this week
.

What’s Looking Good

Dazzle & Pink Lady Apples: Excellent value and bursting with flavour. Our pick for Red Value Apple this week.

Pears: Prices remain firm. There are 2nds available, but they’re heavily marked.

Strawberries: Holding steady with solid supply from WA and Queensland.

Mandarins: Still tasting fantastic. Locally grown seedless varieties are ideal for childcare and aged care. Prices are starting to firm slightly.

Stone Fruit (USA): Small quantities coming into market but they’re premium-priced at around $18/kg.

Honeydew: Slightly better availability than Rockmelon, with QLD supply trickling in.

Yellow Melon: A handy alternative to Honeydew and Rockmelon at the moment.

Tomatoes: Excellent quality Cherry Medley and Cherry Truss on the Vine in 5kg boxes.

Capsicums (Red & Green): Great supply and consistent quality coming in from WA and QLD.

Avocados: Top-shelf quality and great value from WA growers.

Herbs – Micro & Edible Flowers: While market supply is tight, our mates at Yarra Valley Herbs are keeping us well stocked.

Lemons: Great quality and well-priced. Some good 2nds available too.

Mushrooms: Still good supply and low pricing — get amongst it.

Asparagus: Local produce is just beginning to appear. Small quantities, but looking promising.

Broccoli & Broccolini: Local Werribee South produce is finally affordable after months of premium prices.

Oranges: Plenty of supply and great eating. Pricing still reasonable.

Eggs: Relief at last! Supply’s up and pricing is down, thanks to our Victorian producers like Golden Yolk (Bendigo) and Aginbrook (Devon Meadows). Great news for cafés and hospitality.

🔻What’s in short supply

Rockmelon: Still tight, though QLD supply is improving. Expect inconsistent sizing across deliveries.

Grapes: Local red grapes are on their last legs. USA fruit just landed — good quality but expensive.

Cucumbers: All varieties are in shorter supply, driving prices up. Quality holding for now.

Potatoes (Chipping): Limited availability from Hawks Farms. Stock up where you can — Supply issues could last for a couple of monthd.

Squash: Basically a no-show this week.

Wild Rocket: Decent volume, but frost damage is causing a few yellow leaves. Still fresh and crisp overall.

Basil: Supply out of QLD has tightened. We’ve secured supply, but it’s coming at a premium.

Eggplant: Prices are up due to supply dips.

Limes: Supply remains tight and pricing is climbing. Might be time to get creative with substitutions.
