Melbourne Wholesale Fruit and Veg Market Report – August 6th, 2025

Here’s your weekly wrap on Melbourne’s wholesale fruit and veg scene — what’s in season, what’s moving, and what’s costing more than it should.

Whether you run a fine dining kitchen, café, pub or catering business, this market intel will help you plan your orders and keep costs in check.

What’s Looking Good

Apples – Dazzle and Pink Lady varieties are the pick of the crop this week. Great value and flavour-packed. Our Red Value Apple fav for the week.

Wild Rocket – Improved supply and quality across the board. We’re seeing beautiful produce from Lowe Farm, Coolibah Herbs, Tripod Farms, and Hussy & Co.

Strawberries – Two distinct grades on offer: premium ones cost a bit more but are well worth it. The cheaper lines lack shelf life and break down fast.

Mandarins – Imperials are winding down, with Afourers taking their place. We only have seedless in stock — ideal for aged care and childcare.

Stone Fruit – Limited USA supply hitting the market. Expect firm fruit around $18/kg.

Melons – Honeydew, rockmelon and yellow melons are all showing strong supply and easing prices. Queensland growers are still leading here.

Tomatoes – Cherry medley and cherry truss boxes (5kg) are in good supply and quality

Gourmet Tomatoes – A little tight as SA growers hold back stock. Prices are up slightly, and Queensland alternatives aren’t as strong in quality. Ask for 2nds if you're chasing price over premium.

Capsicum – Excellent red roasting caps and a solid Queensland/WA supply overall.

Avocados – Superb quality and value. Prices have even dropped slightly. WA fruit is really shining this season.

Pineapples – Better supply has brought prices down. Looks like smoother sailing ahead.

Mushrooms – Prices are low, supply is good, but quality varies — especially from Mernda farms. Keep an eye on consistency.

Broccolini – Victorian-grown, great value, and even cheaper this week thanks to a bumper crop.

Oranges – Plenty of stock and fair pricing. Good quality.

Eggs – Better supply and falling prices from trusted local farmers like Golden Yolk (Bendigo) and Aginbrook (Devon Meadows). A welcome reprieve for cafés and restaurants.

Habanero Chilli – Good supply from Queensland this week.

Cauliflower – Quality is solid for winter, and pricing has eased. Werribee South doing the heavy lifting here.

🔻What’s in short supply

Cucumbers – Supply remains tight and pricing slightly up, though quality is holding steady.

Potatoes – Chipping potatoes from Hawks Farms are scarce and likely to stay that way for a while. Keep extra stock where possible.

Basil – Still tight but improving. We are paying growers slightly higher prices to maintain consistent supply.

Eggplant – Great quality, but short on supply and prices are up.

Limes – Supply remains tight and pricing is high, tipped to increase further in the coming weeks. Bulk Limes (9kg) are better value but not as good looking.

Lemons – Excellent quality for now. Prices tipped to rise soon. Dont forget you can order 2nds to save a few dollars, their quality is pretty good.

Pears – Prices remain firm. Some marked 2nds are around if you’re budget-conscious -just let us know you want them when ordering.(2nds are by the box only)

Grapes – Aussie red grapes are still lingering, but quality is patchy. USA grapes just landed, but they’re pricey as they enter early season.

Bullet Chillies – Still hard to come by and prices remain high. Quality is decent.

Iceberg Lettuce – Supply firmed up last week and prices followed suit. Quality is okay.

Blackberries – Very limited supply. Raspberries and blueberries are the smarter pick for now.
